Each year group looks at a theme relevant to the age group using exploratory methods such as quizzes, group discussions and games in an informal setting.
The Transitions programme has been developed for Years 5 and 6. It is a 5- part programme looking at reproduction, the physical and emotional changes at puberty, building self esteem, promoting hygiene, gender stereotyping, bullying and friendships and accessing support networks.
Year 7 - pupils explore physical and emotional changes at puberty and how this relates to some of the issues young people face, for example perception of body image.
Year 8 - pupils examine themes such as personal boundaries and good and bad relationships.
Year 9 - JAT introduces sexual health information which young people need in order to make informed decisions. This includes information about sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy.
Years 10, 11 and 12 - pupils look at sexual health and HIV in more detail and explore the social skills needed to limit risk-taking behaviour, for example, assertiveness skills. Speakers are used to personalise experiences of HIV with the older age groups.
By working in schools JAT aims to help young people stay healthy and make informed choices about how they lead their lives.
